First Coach joins the Sticking Together Project Team

In early July, Carla Clarence and Andrew Reilly interviewed a group of potential coach candidates at the Job Prospects Footscray office. We had great cooperation from the Footscray team, and especially team leader Samarah, as they arranged young people to participate in a 15 minute, mini coaching session undertaken by each candidate – it proved to be an excellent way to see the potential coaches in action and was a great basis to talk about their coaching methods and expertise.

We’re very pleased to announce that Justin McConnell will become the first coach to join the team.

Justin worked with HYPA in Mount Gambier from 2011 to 2015, working with young people as a case manager in the Youth Connections, Work Ready and Flexible Learning Options programs. This has given Justin a rich experience developing young people and working with employers for their benefit. Justin has a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) and worked with the South Australian National Football League as a Development Coordinator, as well as teaching experience as a Flexible Learning Coordinator in a secondary school. He relocated to Victoria at the end of 2015, saw this coaching role, and is very keen to be re-joining SYC.

Justin commences on Monday 8th August. He will be working closely with staff in the Footscray and Sunshine offices as we develop and test the coaching process for the pilot commencement in January. Justin will spend time in Adelaide to participate in the service development and to take back the coaching methods and tools so he can test and refine them with JP clients at the same time as Carla is doing the same in Adelaide.

We’re aiming to begin recruitment of the second Victoria-based coach in a short while who will commence in November.
